Reason for that is that we have been extremely busy; our 4.2 release, a new version for BlackBerry and iPhone, execution of our new partner program and partner certifications, and last but not least, implementation of several large customers.

One of our latest successes has allowed us to produce a nice reference story; The implementation of Mobile CRM at Santa Clause Corporation. The view was astonishing!

The training was set as a full day, starting with a keynote, then splitting the group in a technical and a sales track and finally bringing the group back together to do a final presentation.

The initial key note, given by Erik van Hoof, covered a little history of CWR, the new release and the reason for the partners to become certified.

The Technical track was covered by Jeffry van de Vuurst and covered the architecture, installation, configuration and SDK features of CWR Mobile CRM. It was a very interactive and hands-on training with each aspect to be performed in a VPC (included on external haddrives, given to the technical attendees as a present).

The Sales track was covered by Mark Corley (with some interference from David Savage) and covered the Nice to have and Must have scenarios of CWR Mobile CRM, including some details and examples of deals that CWR Mobility have already deployed and implemented. After that the participants got trained in writing and performing a 30-second ‘elevator’-pitch. Each participant had to write their own pitch on CWR Mobile CRM and present their pitch to the audience. The last session included the anatomy of a deal and covered each aspect of the deal, from the initial lead to closing the deal.

At the end of the day the technical and the sales team were brought back together and setup in groups of two. each group had to prepare a small demo scenario, including some customizations and a small presentation and present that to the group.

All participants were very interactive within the group, which resulted in an informal training event with a lot of mind sharing and great creative use cases of CWR Mobile CRM.

We are happy to announce the first CWR Mobility Certified Consultants/Partners:

Trained professional

Certified Partner

Nico Verhagen

Avanade Netherlands BV

Wouter de Nooij

Avanade Netherlands BV

Dennis Schut

CRM Partners

Rik Dubbink

CRM Partners

Hans Veldman

friendlyITsolutions

Sandor Schellenberg

friendlyITsolutions

Geerten Peek

Logica

Merijn van Mourik

Logica

Remco de Haan

Logica

Sanne Groenhof

Logica

Kwinten Volckaert

Mobile Access

Tom Janssens

Mobile Access

Jones Aktan

Traviata

Kim Asselman

Traviata

CWR Mobility Certified Partners 6 Nov 2009

More information and a special Certified Partners area will be available on our website soon.

CWR Mobile CRM Express on the ZuneHD

While I was at the CRM User Group Summit in Chicago, I got my hands on the new ZuneHD from Microsoft. This is probably their best created piece of hardware EVER!

While playing with it, I connected it to Wifi and started browsing the internet. It then struck me that it should be able to run CWR Mobile CRM as well, as our new 4.2 version comes with a web based client as well (CWR Mobile CRM Express).

John O’donnel from the ISV Evangelism team caught me playing with the Zune and asked me if he was able to shoot a little video on the Zune running our CRM app.

He posted it on Channel9 last week and thus far we already have over 1750 views! Looks like either the Zune or CWR is pretty hot on Channel9 :)

Happy viewing!

A lot of attention at WPC09

The Microsoft Worldwide Partner Conference 2009 has come to an end. It was an exciting week for us! We met a lot of interesting people and discussed even more interesting topics.

Of course we had our ‘Partner Appreciation Party’ together with our friends at Experlogix and Scribe Software. The party was a big hit with over 125 people attending! For pictures, visit the Scribe Weblog).

We demonstrated our alpha version of our iPhone client to some of our partners and we had some great feedback regarding the UI and the usability.

The most surprising moment was when we saw our own app being demonstrated at the Mobility Keynote without us knowing :) (at 27:40 in the below video of the keynote):

[MOB0VK] Mobility Solutions - Value Keynote
We want to thank everybody that we met, that were at our party, or that was actively promoting us during the WPC09. But today I got another comment on one of my most popular posts, Adding "Next/Previous" buttons to Entity Details Form Revisited.

Jeremy Winchell explained how he made this customization work for Dynamics CRM 4.0. So I thought I'd update the download to support CRM 4.0.

To make this work you have to export the ISV Config Customization from CRM. Then copy the <Entity>...</Entity> contents from the isv.config.xml file and put it between the <configuration><Entities> elements in the exported ISV Config file. First he looked back at his forecast for 2008 and then he does a three-part (well 2.1 part) forecast for 2009 (part 1, part 2 and part 2.1).

I was happy to see that Mobile CRM is his number one forecast for 2009. I quote:

Mobile CRM will be in increasing demand by sales organizations in particular -
and vendors will continue to invest in it, downturn or not.

And I was happily surprised to see that the following sentence in his article linked to our website :)

the commitment of Microsoft partners
to build Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0 Windows Mobile solutions.

In addition to Paul Greenberg, Inside CRM also has a Top 5 CRM predictions for 2009, and guess what? Mobile CRM is again number 1!

Mobile is the New Hosted – Mobile CRM will rise beyond a “useful”
technology for sophisticated users to a pervasive application that transcends
throughout field and service workers, and even into the trades and labor
workforce.

Reading these predictions sets some high expectations for 2009 :).

Indeed, 2008 has been a great year and 2009 will be an even more exciting year for us! With a new release 4.1 of our CWR Mobile CRM solution coming soon that will set the bar even higher for Windows Mobile CRM solutions!

Talking about Mobile being the new Hosted, we recently released CWR Mobile CRM for CRM Online as a beta and you can still sign up for free during this beta period.

But there's more to come in 2009...

That being said, on behalf of CWR Mobility I want to wish all of you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year and all the best for 2009!

CWR Mobile CRM Online (beta) free trial

We are happy to announce the public availability of CWR Mobile CRM Online.

At this stage we operate CWR Mobile CRM Online in a beta stage. Dave is a real expert on Dynamics CRM, I attended his training in Amsterdam when CRM 4.0 was still called Titan.

The thing I personally like about this book is that it's a real Developer book. It really does a deep dive into building applications on the Dynamics CRM platform.

Together with the book there's a website, www.thecrmbook.com. If you buy the book (which I recommend) you can download the book code here. This is not a small set of individual samples, but a complete code framework that helps you build solutions better and faster.

And that's not all, there's also the how-to video's that he's releasing on the website, which are free.

All in all, a great value for your money if you consider yourself a (Dynamics CRM) developer!

Dave (and Julie ofcourse), congratulations with this book!

CWR Mobility on Channel 9

At the WPC in Houston we had some time to sit down with Ben Riga. While we were talking about our solution, Ben suddenly asked if it was OK to video our conversation to be posted on Channel9.

For some reason we really got to explain deeply what our application/mobile platform does. I think it's because of the way Ben is asking questions and understanding what we are doing.

Featured on Channel9, isn't that a developers dream? You know, sort of eating your own dogfood :).

We use a customized Case entity to track bugs, features and inquiries. We log things like version number, estimated hours to fix/implement, actual hours, etc.

Now we recently moved to Subversion for our sourcecontrol and I thought it would be a good idea to integrate these two systems.

This integration consists of three parts and it's a work in progress. This post describes part one (the easy part).

Log case numbers when committing code and linking to the case in CRM (Part One).

Store revision and changeset information in a custom entity in CRM upon commit in Subversion (Part Two).

Linking from the revision information in CRM to the changelog in Subversion using WebSVN a web-based Subversion repository browser (Part Three).

We are using TortoiseSVN as our Subversion client.

Subversion allows you to add "bugtraq" properties to your repository folders. The first thing we do is add the following properties to the repository root folder using the "svn propset" command. Execute these commands in the command prompt:

svn propset bugtraq:label "CaseID:" .
svn propset bugtraq:message "CaseID: %%BUGID%%" .
svn propset bugtraq:number "false" .
svn propset bugtraq:warnifnoissue "false" .
svn propset bugtraq:url http://crmserver:5555/cs/cases/refertocase.htm?caseid=%BUGID% .
svn commit -q -m "Added CaseId properties to the repository"

Have a look at the TortoiseSVN help file for explanation of these properties, it should be pretty clear. The most important ones are the bugtraq:number and bugtraq:url properties:

bugtraq:number "false" means that your not restricted to entering numbers for the CaseID. We are entering a CRM case number, e.g. CAS-01234, so we set it to "false".

bugtraq:url contains the url that is used to link to the Case in the bugtracking system.

The url for opening a case in CRM is http://crmserver:5555/cs/cases/edit.aspx?id={SOME_GUID}

We need to link to the CRM case using the case number (the number we add when committing code), not using the case id (primary key), so we need to create an intermediate page that translates the case number to the case id. This is the page you see in the bugtraq:url, namely refertocase.htm. This page takes the CAS-01234 number as a querystring parameter and we use a client-side webservice call to retrieve the related case id and then redirect the request to the official CRM page.

You can find the refertocase.htm page and the tortoisesvn.bat file in the attached zip file.

Note: we put the refertocase.htm in the cases subfolder, which isn't officially supported. You could just put it in the isv folder if you want, but then the code in the refertocase.htm needs to be adjusted a bit to point to the correct edit.aspx page.

Now, with these Subversion properties, when you commit a change you will see a textbox called "CaseID:" where you can enter the CAS-01234 case number.

Then, when you view the svn log file, you will see a column called "CaseID:" and when you click on a log entry containing a CaseID, the log message will contain a clickable link that will link to the CRM Case:

So here it is, the first part of the Subversion to CRM integration. We added a CaseID to Subversion and when you enter a CaseID to a changeset it shows up as a clickable link in the log message. This way when viewing the logs you can easily refer to the related case in CRM. Part two will discuss storing changeset/revision information in CRM using a post-commit hook in Subversion. Stay tuned!

Partner Case Study: CWR Mobility BV

We recently blogged about the new promotional video we did together with Microsoft.

As part of these promotional activities Microsoft also created a Partner Case Study about CWR Mobility BV. This will assist CWR Mobility in integrating its own products and solutions with the next generations of Windows Mobile-based devices.

At the same time CWR Mobility will supply Microsoft with feedback based on the experience gathered in the development and marketing of its own products, while also sharing the benefit of an effective exchange of information with other MPAC partners, including industry-leading independent software and hardware vendors (ISVs & IHVs), consolidated solution providers and system integrators.

"We are honoured to accept Microsoft's invitation to join the Mobility Partner Advisory Council," said Erik van Hoof, CEO and co-founder of CWR Mobility BV. "MPAC offers the ideal environment to work more closely with Microsoft and with a selected group of leading innovators to bring new mobility solutions to market. A Boot configuration tool that is installed default on a Mac OSX 10.5 machine. This tool allows you to run both Mac OSX as well as Windows Vista on 1 (beautiful) machine.

I just installed Windows Vista on it and it runs like crazy. It is fast. A beautifull screen and all the drivers for Vista are installed on the Apple CD (why? Maybe they think we should be running Vista on this machine as well...)
Even the built-in webcam works :)

So now I can develop both in Visual Studio as well as in XCode on 1 machine.... And what a machine it is....

New promotional video

Together with Microsoft we were able to create a promotional video on how we have leveraged the power of Dynamics CRM and Windows Mobile to build one of the most advanced Mobile line-of-business applications: CWR Mobile CRM

CWR Mobility Wiki

A while ago I read that AdvantageWorks was migrating documentation to a Wiki site and I thought that was a good idea because of the reasons mentioned in their post.

Recently we've taken the same step and put together the CWR Mobility Wiki. As always with a wiki, it's a work in progress. You'll find product documentation, release notes/version history, installation guides, howto's etc.

Content can be discussed using the Discuss button. You don't need an account for that. If you want to add/edit pages however you'll need an account.

Every page has its own RSS feed, but there's also a general RSS feed you can subscribe to to be notified of any changes.

E.g., if you want to be notified of new versions, it's useful to subscribe to the Version History RSS feed.

As always, feedback is appreciated!
